The Austin Sunshine Camps and Young Men’s Business League of Austin (YMBL) broke ground in late June for their new Zilker Park facility.
Located at Zilker Park since 1928, the Austin Sunshine Camps have provided services to over 48,000 of Austin’s low income youth, including free summer camp experiences for middle and high schoolers, as well as after school programming for middle schoolers.
The event marks 10 years of work by the Austin Sunshine Camps’ Capital Campaign, which reached its $3.5 million goal earlier this year with the help of community leaders, donors, foundations, YMBL members and alumni. The new structure will be approximately 21,000 square feet and will increase the number of youths served by over 50%.
